Many of us self-identify as independent beings, but in fact, we are all dependent. We are dependent on the oxygen we breath, the food we eat, and the many people who meet our physical and emotional needs through their societal vocations they dutifully fulfill day in and day out.
Most importantly of all - we are all dependent on God.
Jesus famously asked, "Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life" (Matthew 6:27)?
We are to be children in the sense that we are to always be dependent upon and trusting in God our father who gives to us generously of all that he has as is best for each of us and all of us. Being in such a relational position of trust and reception with God does not make us children in the sense of being weak and powerless, but the opposite, for when we are weak in the flesh, we are strong in the Lord, when we have humbled ourselves before the Lord, he lifts us up!
